Brioche French Toast

Nothing tastes better on a slow Sunday morning than Brioche French Toast. Buttery bread, well spiced, with warm maple syrup. You can find Brioche at most local grocery stores. Be sure that the slices are about 1/4 inch thick. You want as much surface as you can to soak up the delicious egg custard. Its a classic recipe that everyone will love. Recipe adapted from Robert Irvine.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground clove

  • 2 tablespoons white granulated sugar

  • 4 tablespoons butter

  • 4 eggs

  • 1/4 cup half and half or whole milk

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 8 slices brioche or challah bread

  • Powdered sugar to taste

  • 1/2 cup maple syrup

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, combine cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and sugar.

  • Whisk cinnamon mixture with eggs, half and half, and vanilla in a shallow container such as a pie plate. Be sure to whisk very well to combine custard.

  • Preheat a 10-inch or 12-inch skillet.

  • Dip bread in egg custard on both sides.

  • Melt butter over medium heat. Fry slices until golden brown. About 3-4 min each side..

  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar to taste. Serve with maple syrup immediately.
